School Closings and Inclement Weather Procedures

Goochland County is blessed as one of the most scenic localities in the Commonwealth, and we enjoy the full experience of all four seasons, from rain to heat, and of course, snow.
On this page you can find all the information you need to answer any questions you may have about emergency school closings.
How do I find out if school is closed or schedules change?
We will also dispatch important announcements with SchoolMessenger. SchoolMessenger can send e-mails to parents and phone calls. If you do not receive these messages during inclement weather, be sure to contact your child’s school’s office to update your e-mail and phone numbers in our PowerSchool system. Families can expect calls as early as 5:30 a.m. on days when closings are announced.
Radio and television announcements will also be made through normal local outlets.
Will families receive any communication sent home about these procedures?

If school has been closed for several days and my road is still not accessible to buses but a nearby road is clear, can my child still be transported to school?
During prolonged school closures due to weather, we will activate our emergency snow routes for bus transportation as needed. You can find your child’s snow route on PowerSchool under your child’s bus information with the heading “inclement weather”.
