Work-Based Learning

Currently, our students participate in internships and apprenticeships within traditional CTE pathways. This year, we aim to increase awareness of our Job Shadowing program and student participation across ALL career fields broadening the spectrum of WBL experiences offered to our high school students.

Steps We Plan To Take:

  1. Introduce academic career pathways in addition to CTE pathways through increased awareness and high school student participation.

  2. Expose middle schoolers to career pathways through a middle school series of guest speakers.

  3. Over time, push into the elementary schools to introduce career clusters and begin exposure.

Most Common Employer Concerns:

Insurance Worries - WBL is an extension of the classroom. Insurance is provided by the school division and supplements the insurance provided by parents.

Injuries Sustained by the Student To and From the Workplace - Liability lies within the party responsible for the transportation of the student.

OSHA Worries - OSHA training is provided by GCPS.
